What is Proscare by Fortune Health Care?

Proscare is a finasteride preparation from Fortune Health Care, supplied as a small pack of 10 pills with 5 mg in each. That strength matches the classic prostate medicine Proscar, while the lower 1 mg dose of the same substance is the one sold for hair loss as Propecia.

The prostate depends on dihydrotestosterone to grow. Inside the gland, the enzyme 5-alpha reductase type 2 makes DHT out of circulating testosterone. Finasteride is a competitive, slowly reversible inhibitor of that enzyme. It lowers DHT inside the prostate as well as in the blood, and over time the gland becomes smaller. Testosterone itself is not blocked, so most androgen-dependent functions remain intact.
