What is Dutahair by Fortune?

Dutahair is a hair loss product made by Fortune. It contains dutasteride, the active substance of Avodart, in capsules of 0.5 mg, with 15 capsules in each pack.

Dutasteride is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor. The 5-alpha reductase enzyme turns testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a far stronger androgen. DHT is what shrinks hair follicles on the crown and temples in men with a genetic tendency to androgenetic alopecia, and it is also the main driver of prostate growth with age. There are two main forms of the enzyme. Finasteride blocks mainly type 2, while dutasteride blocks both type 1 and type 2, which is why it lowers blood DHT by about 90 percent or more, a deeper reduction than finasteride achieves.

Effects and uses

Dutasteride was first approved for benign prostatic hyperplasia, the enlargement of the prostate that causes weak flow and frequent urination in older men. In South Korea and Japan it is also registered for male pattern hair loss, and dermatologists elsewhere prescribe it off-label for that purpose, often when finasteride has not worked well enough. Users of Dutahair look for:

  • a slower rate of hair loss at the crown and hairline;
  • thicker, stronger hair in thinning areas;
  • in some men, regrowth in areas that have thinned recently;
  • relief of urinary symptoms where the prostate is enlarged.

Athletes on testosterone-based cycles sometimes use it to protect their hairline from the extra DHT. It does not help with steroids that are already DHT derivatives, such as Masteron, Winstrol or Anavar, because these do not need the enzyme to act.

How is it taken?

The usual dose for both prostate enlargement and hair loss is 0.5 mg, one capsule, once a day, so a pack of 15 capsules covers just over two weeks. The capsule is swallowed whole and not chewed or opened, since its contents can irritate the mouth and throat. Results on the scalp take time: visible changes usually need three to six months, and the full effect is judged after about a year. Dutasteride has a very long half-life of around five weeks, so its effect fades slowly after stopping.

Treatment of hair loss is long term, and the dose and duration must be agreed with a qualified medical professional.

Side effects and precautions

The best-known side effects are sexual: lower libido, erection problems and reduced ejaculate volume. Breast tenderness or enlargement and mood changes have also been reported. Dutasteride roughly halves the PSA value, which a doctor must take into account when screening for prostate cancer. Women who are or may become pregnant must not take it and should not handle leaking capsules, as it can affect the development of a male fetus. Men taking it should not donate blood until six months after the last dose. Dutahair is not intended for women or children.

Package

The pack contains 15 capsules of dutasteride 0.5 mg made by Fortune. Dutahair can be ordered on MaxLabs.co, and other treatments are listed in the hair loss category.
