What is HMG 150IU (Humog 150) by Bharat serums?

HMG 150IU (Humog 150) is a fertility medicine containing human menopausal gonadotropin, also called menotropin. It is made by Bharat serums and supplied as one vial with 150 IU of freeze-dried hormone for injection. HMG is purified from the urine of postmenopausal women, whose bodies release large amounts of pituitary gonadotropins.

What makes HMG special is that it carries two hormone activities at once: follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH), in roughly equal proportion. HCG, by comparison, imitates only LH. HMG is a peptide hormone preparation and has no anabolic steroid activity.

What is HMG used for?

In women, HMG stimulates the ovaries to develop follicles. It is a standard part of ovulation induction and IVF programs, usually followed by an HCG injection to release the eggs.

In men, the FSH part is what counts. FSH acts on the Sertoli cells in the testes, which nurse developing sperm, while LH drives testosterone production. That is why HMG is used to treat male infertility caused by low pituitary output, and why some athletes turn to it after long or repeated steroid cycles. Typical goals are:

• restarting sperm production when HCG alone has not restored the sperm count;
• supporting fertility before a planned conception;
• completing hormonal recovery when the testes have been suppressed for a long time.

How is it used?

The powder is dissolved in the solvent recommended by the manufacturer and injected into a muscle or under the skin, depending on the instructions. It is not used by itself for long in men: medical protocols combine it with HCG.

For male hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, published regimens commonly use 75 to 150 IU two or three times a week together with HCG. Because one full cycle of sperm formation takes around two and a half months, treatment usually continues for several months before a semen analysis shows the result. In women the dose is adjusted according to ultrasound scans and hormone tests. Possible side effects

In men, the most common reactions are pain or swelling at the injection site, headache, acne and breast enlargement caused by higher estradiol. In women, the main risks are ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, multiple pregnancy and, rarely, blood clots. Allergic reactions to urinary gonadotropins can occur in both sexes.

HMG should not be used with tumors of the pituitary or hypothalamus, hormone-dependent cancers, primary testicular failure, ovarian cysts not caused by polycystic ovary syndrome, or undiagnosed vaginal bleeding.
