What is Azab 100 by Parth?

Azab 100 is the 100 mg azithromycin tablet produced by Parth. Each pill contains 100 mg of azithromycin, and one pack holds 3 pills. Azithromycin belongs to the macrolide antibiotics. Chemically it is an azalide: a relative of erythromycin with a nitrogen atom added to its ring, which makes it more stable in stomach acid and lets it build up in tissues at far higher levels than in the blood.

The drug binds to the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome and stops bacteria from making new proteins. Without them the bacteria cannot multiply, and the immune system clears the infection. Azithromycin does nothing against viruses or fungi.

What is it used for?

Azithromycin acts on many common pathogens, including streptococci, Haemophilus, Moraxella, Chlamydia and Mycoplasma. Doctors prescribe it for:

• skin and soft tissue infections caused by susceptible bacteria;
• throat, sinus and middle ear infections;
• bronchitis and community-acquired pneumonia;
• chlamydia and some other sexually transmitted infections.

The 100 mg strength exists for patients who need a small, precise amount, above all children, whose dose is worked out from body weight. Because the drug stays in the tissues for days after the last pill, courses are short, and that is a large part of its popularity.

How is Azab 100 taken?

Azithromycin is taken once a day. A widely used scheme for children is 10 mg per kilogram of body weight once daily for three days, so for a small child it can come to one 100 mg pill a day. Adults usually need far more: 500 mg daily for three days, or 500 mg on day one followed by 250 mg daily for four days. For an adult course this strength is rarely the main tablet.

The tablets can be swallowed with or without food. Antacids with aluminum or magnesium are best kept a few hours apart. The whole course should be finished even when symptoms fade early. The dose and the duration must be agreed with a qualified medical professional, who will also confirm that the infection is bacterial at all.

Possible side effects

Most people tolerate azithromycin well. The usual complaints are digestive: loose stools, nausea, stomach pain and vomiting. Rarer but more serious problems include:

• heart rhythm changes (QT prolongation), above all with low potassium or magnesium or with other QT-prolonging drugs;
• allergic reactions, from rash and swelling to rare severe skin reactions;
• liver inflammation with yellowing of the skin or eyes;
• severe watery diarrhea caused by Clostridioides difficile, sometimes weeks later.

People allergic to macrolides, or who had jaundice or liver problems after earlier azithromycin, should not take it. Needless use breeds resistant bacteria.
