What is Azab 500 by Parth?

Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic of the azalide subclass. It slows bacterial growth by blocking protein production on the ribosome; at the high concentrations it reaches inside infected tissue it can also kill some bacteria outright. After absorption it leaves the bloodstream quickly and collects inside cells, including the white blood cells that travel to an infection. From there it is released over days, which is why one tablet a day is enough.

Uses of azithromycin

Doctors rely on azithromycin for infections caused by susceptible bacteria in several parts of the body. In the skin, it is used for uncomplicated infections such as infected cuts, folliculitis or impetigo. In the airways, it treats sinusitis, tonsillitis, bronchitis and atypical pneumonia caused by Mycoplasma or Chlamydophila. A single large dose is a long-established treatment for chlamydia.

• good absorption, with or without food;
• a long effect after the last tablet;
• generally mild side effects compared with many other antibiotics.

How Azab 500 is used

The most common adult regimen with this strength is one 500 mg tablet once a day for three days, which is the full content of the pack. For chlamydia and some other sexually transmitted infections, a single dose of 1 g (two tablets at once) is often used, and sexual partners usually need treatment too. Severe infections, such as pneumonia that needs a hospital stay, are treated with other doses and often with injections.

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Keep antacids with aluminum or magnesium a few hours apart. The dose, the scheme and the length of the course must always be agreed with a qualified medical professional, ideally after the cause of the infection has been confirmed.

Side effects

The most frequent effects are diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain and vomiting, which tend to be stronger with large single doses. Azithromycin can also interact with other medicines: it may raise blood levels of digoxin and colchicine, and it can increase the effect of warfarin.

The most serious risk is to heart rhythm. Azithromycin can prolong the QT interval, so people with a slow heartbeat, heart rhythm disorders, low potassium or magnesium, or who take other QT-prolonging drugs need medical supervision. Rare reactions include hepatitis, severe skin rashes and C. difficile colitis. A history of macrolide allergy rules it out.
