What is Oxa-Max by Maxtreme?

Oxa-Max is a tablet form of oxandrolone made by Maxtreme. A single pill contains 10 mg of the active substance. Oxandrolone, sold historically as Anavar, is an oral anabolic-androgenic steroid of the dihydrotestosterone family and is usually described as one of the gentler compounds in its class, with a strong anabolic and a weak androgenic effect.

Among bodybuilders, Oxa-Max belongs to the "cutting" group of orals together with stanozolol, as opposed to mass builders like methandienone. That reputation comes from two properties: it does not form estrogen, so it causes little water retention, and it adds weight slowly, mostly as lean tissue.

What is it used for?

Oxandrolone is often chosen by people whose sport rewards strength relative to body weight. Typical situations include:

• dieting phases, to keep muscle mass and strength while calories are reduced;
• preparing for a physique or bodybuilding show, where a dry, defined appearance matters;
• weight-class sports, where athletes want strength without moving up a category;
• combining with injectable compounds at the end of a cycle to harden the physique.

Its effect is partly anti-catabolic: it slows the breakdown of muscle protein that normally accompanies a strict diet and intense training. That is also why it was used in hospitals for patients losing weight after burns or major surgery. Results are noticeable but moderate, and they depend on a well-structured diet and training plan more than on the compound itself.

How it is used

Literature and common practice describe 20 to 50 mg a day for men and much lower amounts for women, typically for six to eight weeks, with the daily amount divided because of the drug's relatively short half-life. Athletes subject to drug testing should be aware that oxandrolone is prohibited at all times by anti-doping rules. Any dose and course length must be agreed with a qualified medical professional, ideally after baseline blood work.

Side effects

The biggest practical issue with oxandrolone is its effect on blood lipids. HDL, the protective cholesterol, often falls considerably, while LDL can rise, which places extra strain on the cardiovascular system, especially when combined with other steroids. Liver enzymes may increase because the molecule is 17-alpha alkylated. Natural testosterone production is suppressed, and libido or mood can dip after the course. Acne, hair thinning and, in women, virilizing changes are also possible. It should not be used by anyone with liver, kidney or heart problems, high cholesterol, prostate or breast cancer, or during pregnancy.
