What is Maxi-Fen-10 by Maxtreme?
Maxi-Fen-10 is the lower-strength tamoxifen product from Maxtreme. Each pill contains 10 mg of tamoxifen citrate, better known by the brand name Nolvadex, and the pack contains 50 pills. The 10 mg strength makes it easy to adjust the dose in small steps, which suits gynecomastia management and the final weeks of post cycle therapy.
Tamoxifen is a selective estrogen receptor modulator. It does not reduce the amount of estrogen in the body. Instead it sits on estrogen receptors and decides, tissue by tissue, whether estrogen gets its message through. In breast tissue it acts as a strong blocker; in bone and in the liver it behaves partly like a weak estrogen; in the hypothalamus and pituitary it blocks the feedback signal and so raises LH and FSH. Much of its activity comes from endoxifen, a metabolite that the liver forms with the help of the enzyme CYP2D6.
What is it used for?
Tamoxifen has been a cornerstone of breast cancer treatment since the 1970s, both to treat the disease and to lower the risk in women at high risk. In men it is used off-label for painful or growing gynecomastia. Athletes use Maxi-Fen-10 for several related purposes:
- to block estrogen at the breast when nipples become sore or puffy during a cycle;
- to treat early gynecomastia before the tissue becomes firm and fibrous;
- as part of post cycle therapy, to raise LH and restart testosterone production;
- as a lower dose to taper off at the end of PCT.
How is Maxi-Fen-10 dosed?
For gynecomastia in men, studies have used 10 to 20 mg a day for up to about three months. In post cycle therapy, a typical scheme is 20 to 40 mg daily in the first week or two, then 10 to 20 mg daily for another two to four weeks, often together with clomiphene. The 10 mg pill lets the user build these doses without splitting tablets, and it is convenient for a gradual step-down. Tamoxifen has a long half-life of about five to seven days, so its levels build slowly and decline slowly.
All of these are commonly reported ranges. Any dose and course length must be agreed with a qualified medical professional, preferably with hormone tests.
Side effects and precautions
Men on tamoxifen most often report hot flushes, nausea, mood changes, a drop in libido and fatigue. A less common but serious risk is the formation of blood clots in the legs or lungs. Visual changes, including cataracts, and changes in liver enzymes are also described. In women, long use raises the risk of uterine cancer. Tamoxifen is unsuitable during pregnancy and for people with a history of thrombosis, and some antidepressants that block CYP2D6, such as paroxetine and fluoxetine, can weaken its effect.
