What is Mastoral by Alpha Pharma?

Mastoral is an oral steroid from Alpha Pharma containing methyldrostanolone, also known as methasterone and, among bodybuilders, as Superdrol. The tablets are dosed at 10 mg each. The name hints at its chemistry: methyldrostanolone is the 17-alpha methylated version of drostanolone, the hormone found in injectable Masteron, which makes it active when swallowed.

Unlike most steroids discussed in sport, methyldrostanolone was never developed into an approved medicine. It was described in scientific papers decades ago and then reappeared in the mid-2000s in products sold as dietary supplements. After reports of serious liver injury in people who took those products, US authorities issued warnings, and the compound was later placed under federal control as an anabolic steroid. It is a DHT-derived anabolic-androgenic steroid that does not aromatize.

Effects

Methyldrostanolone has a strong anabolic effect for its dose and gained its reputation through rapid strength and size gains without the water retention seen with methandienone or oxymetholone. Users of Mastoral typically report:

• quick increases in lean muscle mass and strength;
• a dense, dry and vascular appearance;
• little or no fluid retention, since no estrogen is formed;
• good results even during periods of moderate calorie intake.

Because the gains are mostly dry tissue, a larger share of them tends to remain after the course than with wetter orals.

How it is used

Reported amounts in bodybuilding practice are low in milligram terms, commonly 10 to 20 mg a day, but courses are kept very short, typically no more than three to four weeks, because of the compound's toxicity. Many users with experience treat it as one of the most demanding orals and include it only rarely. These numbers are what is commonly described, not advice. The dose and duration must be agreed with a qualified medical professional, and liver function, lipids and blood pressure should be tested before and during any course.

Side effects

The liver is the major concern. Published case reports link methyldrostanolone to severe cholestatic liver injury and jaundice, sometimes requiring hospital care. It also causes a pronounced drop in HDL cholesterol, a rise in blood pressure, and in some users back pumps, lethargy, loss of appetite and headaches. Natural testosterone production is strongly suppressed, and androgenic effects such as acne and hair loss are possible. Women should not use it because of the risk of virilization. Anyone with liver, kidney or heart disease, high blood pressure or high cholesterol should avoid it, as should anyone using alcohol or other liver-stressing medications.
