What is Magnum Anastrol by Magnum Pharmaceuticals?
When testosterone rises on a steroid cycle, part of it is converted into estradiol. Magnum Anastrol is the product Magnum Pharmaceuticals offers to hold that conversion back. Its active ingredient is anastrozole, supplied as 50 tablets of 1 mg each.
Anastrozole was developed for postmenopausal women with breast cancer and is best known under the brand name Arimidex. Chemically it is a nonsteroidal, reversible inhibitor of the aromatase enzyme. It does not block estrogen receptors the way tamoxifen or clomiphene do; instead it reduces how much estrogen the body produces in the first place.
What does it do on a cycle?
By keeping estradiol in a moderate range, Magnum Anastrol helps avoid the familiar estrogen-driven problems of testosterone enanthate, testosterone cypionate, Dianabol or boldenone. Users mainly look for:
- prevention of tender, swollen nipples and gynecomastia;
- a drier, harder look with less water under the skin;
- fewer mood swings linked to high estrogen;
- a leaner appearance on a cutting cycle that still includes testosterone.
In men, weaker estrogen feedback on the pituitary can also lift natural LH and testosterone to a modest degree, which is why anastrozole turns up in research on low testosterone. Even so, it is not a stand-alone post-cycle drug.
Typical use
A common starting point among bodybuilders is 0.5 mg every other day, which means half a tablet, begun in the first or second week of a testosterone-based cycle. Some users need only 0.25 mg, while heavier cycles may call for 1 mg every other day. The oncology regimen of 1 mg daily would push most men's estradiol far too low. Thanks to a half-life of about 50 hours, there is no need to split the dose through the day.
Response varies from person to person, so estradiol should be measured after two to three weeks and the dose corrected by the result rather than by guesswork. Any dose and course length should be decided together with a qualified medical professional.
Possible side effects
In men, side effects of anastrozole are mostly signs of estradiol falling too far: aching joints, dry skin, low sex drive, poor erections, tiredness and low mood. Blood lipids can suffer as well, with HDL cholesterol dropping, and long use without monitoring may affect bone density. Less common reactions are headache, nausea, hot flushes, rash and changes in liver enzymes.
The prescribing information for anastrozole advises against combining it with tamoxifen, which lowers anastrozole blood levels, or with estrogen-containing medicines. It is unsuitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women and for children. A known allergy to anastrozole rules out Magnum Anastrol completely.
