What is Letros 2.5 by Pharmacom Labs?

Letros 2.5 is Pharmacom Labs' letrozole product. It comes as 50 pills, and each pill holds 2.5 mg of letrozole, the strength used in clinical oncology.

Letrozole belongs to the nonsteroidal aromatase inhibitors, together with anastrozole, but it is considerably more potent. It works by blocking aromatase, the enzyme that makes estrogens from androgens. Once absorbed, it is almost completely available to the body, is broken down slowly in the liver and has an elimination half-life of about two days. Blood levels therefore climb for several weeks before they stabilize, and they fall just as gradually after the last pill.

Why is letrozole used?

Doctors prescribe letrozole for estrogen-sensitive breast cancer in women after menopause and, off-label, for ovulation induction. For men on anabolic steroids, Letros 2.5 serves a different purpose: to stop testosterone, and other steroids that aromatize, from being turned into large amounts of estradiol.

It helps to remember that estrogen is not simply an enemy. Men need a moderate level of estradiol for healthy joints, bones, cholesterol, libido and mood. The goal of using letrozole is to keep estradiol within that range, not to remove it. Letros 2.5 is chosen when weaker inhibitors fail, when a man is very prone to gynecomastia, or when early breast tissue changes call for quick action.

Dosing and monitoring

At 2.5 mg per pill, the clinical tablet is far stronger than most men need for routine estrogen control. Commonly reported ranges on a cycle are 0.25 mg to 0.5 mg every other day, or even twice a week, which means one pill has to be divided into several portions. Higher doses for a short period are used only to tackle beginning gynecomastia, then tapered off rather than stopped abruptly. Because steady blood levels take weeks to establish, estradiol should be retested a few weeks after every change.

Each of these schemes is only a typical range. A qualified medical professional should agree on the dose and the length of treatment.

Possible side effects

The typical problems of letrozole in men come from suppressed estradiol:

  • aching joints and tendons, sometimes with cracking;
  • a marked loss of sex drive and weaker erections;
  • tiredness, anxiety or a depressed mood;
  • a less favorable cholesterol profile;
  • loss of bone density if estrogen stays very low for long.

Hot flushes, sweating, headache, dizziness, nausea, edema and hair thinning are also reported. Letrozole is not to be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and people with osteoporosis or severe liver impairment need medical supervision.
