What is Aromex by Alpha Pharma?

Aromex is an aromatase inhibitor produced by Alpha Pharma. Its active substance is exemestane, the compound behind the brand Aromasin, and each pack holds 30 pills of 25 mg.

Exemestane stands out among aromatase inhibitors because it is a steroid. Its structure closely resembles androstenedione, the natural substrate of the aromatase enzyme. The enzyme mistakes exemestane for its usual target, binds it, and is permanently disabled in the process. This is why exemestane is called a suicide inhibitor or aromatase inactivator: estrogen synthesis can only resume once the body has built new enzyme. Anastrozole and letrozole, by contrast, block aromatase only while they are present in the blood.

How does Aromex help?

Medically, exemestane is used for hormone receptor positive breast cancer in postmenopausal women, usually after several years of tamoxifen. In sports pharmacology it is valued for controlling estrogen on cycles that contain aromatizing steroids. Users take Aromex to:

• keep estradiol from rising too high on testosterone, boldenone or Dianabol;
• prevent gynecomastia and nipple sensitivity;
• reduce estrogen-related water retention for a drier, harder look;
• limit the rise in blood pressure that often comes with estrogen-driven fluid retention.

One metabolite of exemestane has mild androgenic activity. Some users credit this with a less draining feel than other inhibitors, though that impression rests on anecdote rather than trials.

Reported dosing

The oncology dose is 25 mg once a day after a meal. Men on a cycle often get by with less: 12.5 mg daily or 25 mg every other day are the figures reported most often, with a full 25 mg daily kept for cycles with strongly aromatizing compounds. Exemestane is usually started at the beginning of the cycle and continued until the steroids have cleared. Its half-life is about 24 hours, and taking it with food that contains some fat improves absorption.

Estradiol should be checked by blood test after a few weeks to confirm the dose is right. The dose and length of use always need to be agreed with a qualified medical professional.

Side effects

Most side effects are typical of low estrogen. They include joint and muscle aches, hot flushes, tiredness, headache, poor sleep, sweating and dizziness. Long periods of very low estradiol can reduce bone density and worsen cholesterol values. Because of the androgenic metabolite, acne or oily skin can appear in sensitive users. Aromex is not intended for premenopausal women, pregnant or breastfeeding women, or children, and should not be combined with estrogen-containing medicines.
